SUPPORT PROPERTY TAX RELIEF & INCREASING THE EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT (EITC)

The Governor's call for the special session that begins tomorrow includes both property tax relief that considers the impact on schools, and changing the Earned Income Tax Credit.
The League supports both proposals. We support adequate funding for public schools, which rely on property taxes and are impacted by property tax cuts. We also support a progressive tax system, taking a larger share from those who have more and a smaller share from those who have less. The Earned Income Tax Credit, a refundable tax credit aimed at lower income working families, puts money in the pockets of those who have less, whether they owe taxes or not.
