Thank You for Taking Action on the Colorado Voting Rights Act!

The Colorado Voting Rights Act (SB25-001) has officially passed the House State Affairs Committee with a vote of 8-3!

This is a major step forward in ensuring that every eligible voter in Colorado – regardless of race, language, identity, disability, or background – has full and equal access to the ballot.

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to:

  • Assistant Majority Leader Rep. Jennifer Bacon and Rep. Junie Joseph for their unwavering leadership,

  • Every community member and advocate who testified with courage and clarity,

  • And to all of YOU – our League members, partners, and supporters – who took the time to write letters, make calls, post on social media, and raise your voices in support of this critical legislation.

Together, we are strengthening democracy from the ground up.

What is the Colorado Voting Rights Act (COVRA)?

For years, the federal Voting Rights Act has been eroded by court decisions – leaving gaps in protections for many communities. With SB25-001, Colorado is stepping up to protect the right to vote at the state level.

Now passed, the Colorado Voting Rights Act will:

  • Codify protections against voter discrimination, especially for communities that have been historically marginalized.

  • Establish safeguards for multilingual, LGBTQ+, justice-involved, disabled, and tribal voters.

  • Help ensure that no eligible voter is denied fair and full access to the democratic process.

This is a landmark opportunity for Colorado to lead the nation in inclusive and equitable elections.
