Rebecca Goldman, Justice Reform Legislative and Policy Specialist, LWVUS, has recently shared an opportunity for state Leagues to engage in federal advocacy for gun safety reform:

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) put out a request for public comment on its proposed rulemaking on the definition of when a person is considered “engaged in the business” as a dealer in firearms. This rule would ensure that individuals who offer firearms for sale online or at gun shows are licensed to do so, complete background checks before transferring guns, and maintain records of those transactions.

If your state League would like to submit comments urging the finalization of the proposed rule, please find attached draft comments for your League’s modification and submission. These are due December 7th and can be submitted here (upload your file as a PDF and indicate in the “Comment” box that your submission is attached).
